Shreveport
A village, founded on the banks of the Red River in 1836 and named Shreve Town, honoring Captain Henry Miller Shreve commander of the US Army Corps of Engineers,
who cleared the 180 mile long raft of debris that had clogged its channel, was on March 20, 1839 incorporated as the town of Shreveport. In 1871 Shreveport was incorporated as a city.
